Organizing Your Downloads Folder with Claude Cowork

We've all been there: the Downloads folder becomes a graveyard of PDFs, images, installers, and zip files. Cleaning it up is tedious, but it's the perfect task for Claude Cowork.

The Prompt

Simply give Claude access to your Downloads folder and say:

"Organize my Downloads folder by file type and date."

What Claude Does

1. Analyzes: Claude scans the file extensions and metadata (creation dates).
2. Plans: It creates a plan to make new folders like "Images", "Documents", "Installers" or structure them by year/month like "2024/Jan".
3. Executes: It moves the files into their respective new homes.

Pro Tip

You can be specific! Try: "Move all screenshots to a 'Screenshots' folder and delete any DMGs older than a week."
